Programmable structures
In nature, some plants are able to change their shape to adapt to outdoor conditions. These changes are explained by properties at the millimeter or microscopic scale of plants and microstructure. Imperfections or micro-structuring of a material can indeed be made to program the deformations of a structure.
This project explores several aspects:
-
The use of specific microstructures to generate extremely light formwork, thanks to digital cutting processes
-
Understanding the geometry of known mechanisms (origami, kirigami) to generate easily buildable shapes
-
Application to deployable facades
